Mrs. Theresa Franklin, age 72, beloved wife, mother, and sister, passed away peacefully on Oct. 12 at Riverside Hospital in Onancock. She was surrounded by her loving husband and two children. She was born on Dec. 30, 1951, on Chincoteague Island, to the late Stanley and Ruth (Birch) Reed.
Theresa was a true daughter of Chincoteague Island, and her family roots were deep and could be traced to the Assateague Colony, including being related to the little boy, James “Alone” Lunn, who washed ashore after a Spanish shipwreck in the early 1800s.
Theresa is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, David Edward Franklin; children, Candice Franklin Alba and Anthony Franklin; and grandchildren, Olivia and Marcos. Theresa is also survived by her sisters, Crystal Reed Hyett and Melodie Reed; her aunt, Gail Horner; her nephews, Matthew and Robert Mason; her niece, Skylar Reed; and many cousins.
Theresa was preceded in death by her sister, Carla Reed Wells.
After marrying the love of her life in 1976, Theresa moved and lived in many different states in the U.S. (wherever the U.S. Coast Guard sent them). Theresa enjoyed horseback riding, needlepoint, art, home decorating (especially for Halloween and Christmas), and cooking local dishes such as clam fritters.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, Oct. 21, at 11 a.m. at Hill Cemetery on Chincoteague Island.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company (EMT Services), P.O. Box 691 Chincoteague Island, VA 23336.
