Mr. Harry Walter Martin, 88, husband of Betty Wolfe Martin, passed away peacefully at his home in Mount Nebo on Monday, Oct. 7, 2024. Born June 26, 1936, in Harborton, he was the son of the late Gerald “Lynwood” Martin Jr. and the late Margaret Webster “Peggy” Martin.

Harry graduated from Central High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1954. Following honorable discharge, he returned home to Harborton in July of 1956 and married his sweetheart on his birthday the following year. Harry worked for Verizon for several decades, during which time he spent his late spring and summer seasons crabbing on Onancock and Pungoteague creeks. He was a longtime member of both the Onancock Elks Lodge and the Exmore Moose Lodge. Harry adored his family, and he was especially grateful for the many memories he and Betty shared.

In addition to his wife of 67 years, he is survived by his daughter, Penny Martin Fowler and her husband, Wayde, and his son, Gerald L. “Gerry” Martin IV, all of Onancock; brother, Webster S. “Webby” Martin, of Harborton; sisters-in-law, Caren Martin, Sandra Walters (Donnie), and Debbie Etz; granddaughters, Jennifer Lucas (Jay) and Lindsay Evans (Matt); great-grandchildren, Palmer and Berkley Lucas, Isabella Bono-Evans, and Weston, Allie, and Lydia Evans; and several nieces and nephews.

Other than his parents, Harry was predeceased by his son, Harry “Walter” Martin Jr. and brothers, Gerald L. “Gerry” Martin III and Smith K. “Smicky” Martin III.
