Kick up your heels and dance in the streets at the lively block party that’s part of the annual Chincoteague Annual Poker Run for the Kids on Saturday, Sept. 14, sponsored by the Chincoteague Police Department.
Funds raised will benefit local children in need this holiday season.
“We’re thrilled to celebrate the 20th annual Poker Run, a cherished tradition that brings our community together for a great cause,” said Tyler L. Greenley, Chincoteague’s chief of police.
Earlier in the day, registered motorcyclists will crisscross over three counties in Maryland’s lower Eastern Shore before ending the run at Don’s Restaurant on Main Street, Chincoteague, by 2:30 p.m.
The almost 85-mile long ride begins at Rommel’s Harley-Davidson in Salisbury, Md., with stops at 410 Social Eatery and Barroom in Berlin, Buck’s Bar and Grill in Princess Anne, and Dockside Restaurant in Pocomoke City, before heading to Chincoteague.
According to Greenley, as many as 150 to 200 riders have participated in previous years. Cash prizes are awarded to the riders with the best, next best, and the worst poker hands.
Main Street then closes to traffic as the block party kicks off with a live auction at 3 p.m. by Chester Jackson, of Countryside Auctions, featuring local decoys, art, gift cards, and more.
Live music will be provided by the local group, The Rhythm Section.
An armband for all-you-can-eat shrimp, pulled pork, hot dogs, burgers, coleslaw, and corn on the cob is available for purchase for $25.
“It’s always a great day and it’s very heartwarming to see the generosity and spirit of Chincoteague come alive each year through this event,” said Greenley.
