Mr. David William McCready, 89, of Chincoteague, passed away peacefully at home on Aug. 27, 2024. Born in Accomack County, he was the beloved son of the late Orville and Bessie McCready and was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie McCready.
David was a proud veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, serving with dedication and honor. After his military service, he established McCready’s Seafood Restaurant and oyster packing house.
He was an active member of Island Baptist Church, serving as an usher, and he was deeply involved in church activities. David’s faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him in his daily interactions and community service.
David graduated from Chincoteague High School and furthered his education at Goldey-Beacom College, where he developed a foundation for his future business endeavors. Known for his loving and caring nature, David possessed a great sense of humor that brought joy to those around him. He cherished his time walking at Assateague, enjoying coffee with friends at McDonald’s, and, most importantly, spending time with his family.
David is survived by his daughter, Tammy McCready; son, David McCready; granddaughters, Lauren McCormack (Ian) and Jessica Wainwright (Brooks); and great-grandchildren, Sawyer and Finley McCormack.
A graveside service will be held at J.W. Taylor Memorial Cemetery on Friday, Aug. 30, at 2 p.m. Salyer Funeral Home of Chincoteague is assisting the family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of David to Island Baptist Church, 3380 Willow St., Chincoteague Island, VA 23336. His legacy will live on through his family and the many lives he touched.
