Mr. Elwood Stanley Young, 81, of Hallwood, passed away on Aug. 15, 2024, at his residence surrounded by those who loved him. Born on Dec. 18, 1942, in Hallwood, he was the son of the late Elwood Driscoll Young and the late Elizabeth Jackson Young.

Stanley worked several jobs over the years, but he was known for taking over Young’s General Store and Garage from his father. Later he opened it as the Other Side Pool Hall, where many people of the Eastern Shore made many fond memories throughout the years. In more recent years, his store was known as Stanley Young’s Hallwood. If you couldn’t get it at his shop, you didn’t need it.

Most importantly, he was known for his heart of gold and he would help anyone in need. His passions in life were his store, duck hunting, and his beloved grandchildren, who meant more to him than anything in this world.

Stanley is survived by his daughters, Lynier Linton and her husband, Mark, of Ocean Pines, Md., and Traci Young, of Crisfield, Md.; a stepson, Edward Allen Furniss, of Melfa; three grandchildren, Vaden Linton, Daylen Linton, and Delaney Linton, of Ocean Pines; a special niece, Kimberly Donnelly and her husband, Jimmy, of Bloxom; two great-nephews, Brandon Donnelly, of Gulfport, Miss., and Dylan Donnelly, of Bloxom; his special friend and “brother,” William “Billy” Smith and his wife, Leilani, of Hallwood; and several very special friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved brother, Jimmy Young, of Hallwood.

A graveside service was held on Sunday, Aug. 18, at 2 p.m. from the John W. Taylor Cemetery in Temperanceville with the Pastor Danny Shrieves officiating. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the AGH John H. “Jack” Burbage Regional Cancer Center, 9707 Healthway Drive Berlin, MD 21811.

Arrangements were by the Thornton Funeral Home in Parksley.
