Mr. William P. Edmondson, better known as “Bill,” husband of JoAnne Edmondson, died Monday, Aug. 12, 2024, at the age of 65. Growing up in Norfolk, he later adopted the Eastern Shore as his home.
Bill was predeceased by his parents, William P. Edmondson Jr. and Margaret Wilkinson, and a brother, Thomas Tabb Edmondson. He is survived by his sister, Susan Edmondson Phillips (Jerry); niece Holland Tabb Phillips; stepchildren, Suzie (Peter) Henderson and Sarah (Max) Rodriguez; and grandchildren, Conner, Charlotte, Anthony, Isaac, and AJ; and many cousins, friends, and coworkers.
Bill attended Blue Ridge School, Lynchburg College, and Johnson & Wales Culinary Institute (1991), where he trained to be the much beloved chef at Stingray’s and Aqua (The Oyster Farm). For many years, he was known as “Cape Center Bill.” Bill’s clam chowder and many other delicacies he concocted were coveted by many.
Bill was an avid fisherman and enjoyed time in the duck blind. He loved being out on Hungar’s Creek with JoJo catching speckled trout or getting up at the crack of dawn with Conner to shoot a black duck or two.
Bill also loved being with his grandchildren. He was Isaac’s gaming buddy and he loved playing in the floor with AJ and his toys. He kept a swimming pool ready for his “boys” to swim in all summer.
Bill enjoyed socializing with his friends at the American Legion and Yuk Yuk and Joe’s and going to the casinos from time to time with his wife. He enjoyed his free time.
Services will be held on Thursday, Aug. 22, at 11 a.m. at Wilkins-Doughty Funeral Home (Cape Charles) followed by a reception at the American Legion (Cheriton).
