Mrs. Jacqueline Douglas Bull “Jackie” Mears, 92, beloved wife of Willie Edward Mears, passed away peacefully at her home in Parksley on Wednesday, July 31, 2024. Born Feb. 27, 1932, in Parksley, she was the daughter of the late Floyd Samuel Bull and the late Carrie Bundick Bull.

Jackie graduated from Parksley High School in 1950 and she hit the ground running. She continued her education at Pan American Business College in Richmond, and on Feb. 2, 1951, she and Willie were married. From that day forward they did everything side by side, and together they built a beautiful life. As natives of Parksley, Jackie and Willie not only made their home in the town they loved, but they also made significant contributions through their businesses and church. For many years, they owned and operated Accomac Candy Company, and later The Village Shop, and they remained faithful members of Parksley Baptist Church for more than seven decades.

Jackie was passionate about giving back to her community, having served as a member of the Soroptimist Club of Accomack County and the Kiwanis Club of Accomack, and she enjoyed volunteer work as a master gardener. Jackie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many, all of whom are comforted in knowing she now rests in the arms of her Lord and Savior.

In addition to her husband of 73 years, Jackie is survived by her daughters, Beth Scott, of Melfa, and Alisin Jackson, of Parksley; grandchildren, Chase Scott (Katey), Luke Scott (Kristen), Zachary Figgs, Jakob William L. Jackson, and Sadie Elizabeth M. Jackson; great-grandchildren, Lily, Trower, and Carrie Anne Scott, and Camden and Lucas Scott; and special friends, Dave Parks, Parks Abrams, and Kim Saunders. Other than her parents, Jackie was predeceased by her sister, Maude B. Godwin.

Funeral services were held at Parksley Baptist Church on Friday, Aug. 2, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Mark Layne officiating. The family gathered for private interment at the Parksley Cemetery.
