Mr. Santiago “Chago” Garcia, 44, passed away at his home in Hallwood on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, with his loving family by his side. Born on Nov. 24, 1979, in Boynton Beach, Fla., he was the youngest of all his siblings. He lived in Florida until moving with his family to the Eastern Shore of Virginia.
He was a hard worker and a die-hard Miami Dolphins fan. Chago spent his weekends grilling out and getting ready for the big game on Sunday afternoons.
Growing up, Chago was surrounded by his family. The older kids made sure to take good care of their little brother. He loved to be first in line, and as the baby, he usually got his way. When he was little, he was terribly afraid of thunderstorms. His big sister Gloria loved being his “thunder buddy,” and he would cuddle with her until the storm passed. His family surrounded him one last time during a thunderstorm as he passed into the arms of Jesus.
Santiago is survived by his loving, devoted mother, Yolanda Madrigal, and stepfather, William De La Cruz, of Hallwood; daughter, Angelina Garcia, of Bloxom; granddaughter, Violet Castañeda; sisters, Margarita Garcia (Gumaro Mojica) and Maria V. Garcia, both of Lake Park, Ga., Juanita L. Garcia (Alejandro Quiroz), of Onley, Martha Garcia (Juan Ake), Gloria Garcia (Carlos Zamora), Luz Garcia, and Rosalinda Garcia, all of Moore Haven, Fla., and Molly Garcia, of Houston; brothers, Jose E. Garcia (Denise), of Stuart, Fla., and Alejandro Garcia III, of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; as well as 27 nieces and 12 nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Alejandro Garcia Jr.
A mass of Christian burial was held at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Onley on Saturday, July 27, at 9:30 a.m., with Father Michael Imperial officiating. Interment followed in the Parksley Cemetery. There was a visitation at the Williams-Parksley Funeral Home on Friday, July 26, from 4 until 8:00 p.m.
