Mrs. Betty Jo Colona, of Federalsburg, Md. passed away July 28, 2024, at Lofland Park Center in Seaford, Del. at the age of 84. Born in Northampton County, she was the daughter of the late Charles Joseph and Evelyn Taylor Matthews. Betty attended Accomack County Public Schools and married her sweetheart, Norris Gray Colona, on Aug. 10, 1956, in Pocomoke City, Md. The couple made their home in Federalsburg and were married 65 years until his passing in 2021.
Betty worked for many years as a seamstress for Feds Sportswear and finished her work career at Sisk Fulfilment Service in Federalsburg.
Betty was the ultimate prayer warrior and always testified of her love for Jesus to others. Family was her life, and besides holding them each close in her heart, she always enjoyed times together.
Betty is survived by her son, Norris Keith Colona (Deena), of Federalsburg; her two grandsons, Christopher Smullen (Deborah), of Seaford, Del.; and Nicholas Colona, of Federalsburg; her great-grandchildren, Adrianah and Brantley Smullen; her niece, Tina Townsend (Yardley) and family; her nephews, Charles “Chuckie” Matthews (Susan) and family, and Kelly Roach; and her cousin, Pete Smith (Connie) and family.
In addition to her parents and husband, Norris, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Starr Widdowson; her brothers, Charles Wayne Matthews and David Brian Matthews; and a niece, Barbara Roach.
A service for Betty was held Thursday, Aug. 1, at noon at the Park Lane Church of God in Federalsburg with Bishop Ray Parsons officiating. The family received friends one hour prior to the service. She will be laid to rest on Friday, Aug. 2, at Liberty Cemetery in Parksley.
