Mrs. Katie Mae Nock Killmon, 88, of Hacksneck, was welcomed into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior and her husband, the late Wade Matthew Killmon, on Wednesday, June 5, 2024. Born Jan. 1, 1936, in Harborton, she was the only child of the late Leland Nock and the late Sallie West Nock.

As the matriarch of her family, Katie led by example through her relentless faith in the Lord, unwavering love for her family, and dedication to her community.

Once her youngest child started school, she began working as a school bus driver for Accomack County Public Schools, sharing her sweet smile with countless children for over 16 years. During her time with ACPS, she also worked part-time for the Hacksneck and Harborton post offices, happily filling in whenever needed.

A devout Christian, Katie was a longtime member of Evergreen United Methodist Church and the United Women of Faith. When she was home, you’d often find her in the kitchen baking and never for herself. Katie found great joy in sharing her baked goods with family and friends, and she especially looked forward to helping those who needed a ride or help with errands. Her beautiful heart and endless generosity were known and appreciated by many, all of whom will be forever grateful for having the opportunity to share this life with her.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Mitzi K. Paul and her husband, Kerry, of Wachapreague, Cindy K. Custis and her husband, Larry, of Pungoteague, and the Rev. W. Matthew Killmon Jr. and his wife, Lani, of Brookneal; and grandsons, Justin Matthew Paul (Elizabeth) and W. Matthew “Trey” Killmon III (Heather).

Funeral services were conducted from the chapel of the Williams-Onancock Funeral Home on Sunday, June 9, at 2 p.m., with her son, the Rev. W. Matthew Killmon Jr., and the Rev. Kendra Powell officiating. There was a visitation at the funeral home on Saturday, June 8, from 5 until 7 p.m. Private interment was in the Onancock Cemetery.
