Mrs. Kathleen Hickman “Kathy” Hasty, 70, of Melfa, passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2024, with her daughters by her side. Born Feb. 14, 1954, in Nassawadox, she was the daughter of the late William “Bill” and Effie Lee Peppler Hickman.

Always a go-getter, Kathy put herself through college and earned her associate degree from Eastern Shore Community College. Soon after, she began her longtime career as an administrative assistant for the Accomack County Department of Social Services. Throughout her life Kathy’s faith in the Lord never wavered, and she especially looked forward to Sunday worship at Hollies Baptist Church. She loved animals, butterflies, and the color blue, but nothing compared to the love she had for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Kathy would do anything for her family, and she undoubtedly brought them as much joy as they did to her.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, April Hall (James), of Bloxom, and Stacy Carpenter, of Denver, Colo.; companion and dear friend, Gerald Hasty; grandchildren, Brianna Hall (Jeffrey), of Wallops Island, Courtney Hall (Jordan), of Bloxom, Caleb Hoilman, of Bloxom, Katie Failes (Josh), of Hallwood, and Wendy Gomez, of Parksley; great-grandchildren, Easton Stevens, Paislee Marshall, Christopher Bloxom, and Baby Boy Stevens on the way; special niece, Helen Burke (Ryan), of Wilson, N.C.; nephews, James and Edward Urie and CL Brown; best friends, Pat Huffman and Charlene Pettit; and favorite doggie and sidekick, Sophie.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Deborah Boone; and best friends, Dianna Brown, Eve Blackwell, and Luann Lilliston.

Funeral services were conducted from the chapel of the Williams-Parksley Funeral Home on Friday, May 24, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Steven Miller officiating. Interment followed in the Wachapreague Cemetery. There was a visitation at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

Contributions in Kathy’s memory may be made to Hollies Baptist Church, P.O. Box 7, Keller, VA 23401.
