Mr. Michael J. Haspert, 70, cherished husband, brother, and friend, was welcomed into the arms of his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 1, 2024. He was one of four boys, born Aug. 29, 1953, to the late Adam and Marion Haspert.

Michael grew up in Hughesville, Md. and graduated from Hughesville High School. He later completed the journeyman meat cutting program, embarking on a career that he remained passionate about throughout his life. Over the years, he lent his expertise to many meat departments but spent the last 30 years with Food Lion, having worked in many stores on the Eastern Shore, most recently at the Onley location.

With his laid back, easy-going nature, Michael was quick to make new friends everywhere he went and many of his co-workers and customers were like family. Michael was raised in a Christian home and maintained his faith in the Lord in adulthood.

He found joy in restoring old cars and spent countless hours working on his farm in Onancock alongside his wife and best friend, Dru. Together, he and Dru built a warm and welcoming home, prepared beautiful flower and vegetable gardens, and raised many species of birds such as emu, ostriches, rheas, ducks, and chickens.

Known for his generous spirit, Michael never hesitated to lend a helping hand to those in need, whether family, friend, neighbor, or stranger. His unwavering dedication to his family, relentless work ethic, and willingness to help others will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched. May he rest in peace knowing he made the world a better place through his kindness and generosity.

Michael leaves behind his wife of 44 years, Dru Haspert, who loved and adored him. He is also survived by his brothers, Adam (Nancy) Haspert and David Haspert. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Dennis Haspert.

The family gathered for a private interment at the Fairview Lawn Cemetery. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers or monetary donations, please take a page from Michael’s book and help someone in need.

Arrangements are by the Williams-Onancock Funeral Home.
