Mrs. Lois Jane “Janie” Yarbrough, 74, of Cape Charles, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 20, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born in Norfolk to the late Elsie and Hugh Lee Morse.

Jane grew up with a large family including a twin sister, Jeanie, and four siblings. She moved to the Shore in the late 1970s and even though she left several times, Janie always considered the Eastern Shore home.

She spent her years on the Shore raising her family, running her own business, and building lifelong friendships in the community. Jane and her late husband, Jim, were known for their love of football. She could frequently be seen driving down Lankford Highway with her flags proudly on her car.

The last few years Jane had been a part of the family at the Cape Motel.  She was well known by the travelers and created so many great memories with them. Janie loved many things: her family, her friends, decorating, and football.

Jane was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, James “Jim” Yarbrough.  She is survived by her son, David Johnson, of Cape Charles; daughter, Rachel Mae Vaughan, of Raleigh, N.C.; and her five grandsons, Jason, Rhys, Brody, Dixon, and Landen.

A celebration of life will take place at the Cape Motel, 26460 Charles M. Lankford Jr. Memorial Hwy., Cape Charles, VA 23310 on Sunday, May 5 at 2 p.m.
