Mr. Donald Thomas Young, 85, of Parksley, husband of Louise Floyd (Johnson) Young passed away on Jan. 23, 2024.

Born on Aug. 15, 1938, in Parksley, he was the son of the late Harvey and Thelma Young. Donald joined the U.S. Air Force after high school. After serving for eight years, he returned to the Shore to farm and survey. In all the many years of farming, his favorite thing was driving the combine during harvest season; he never missed a year.

Oftentimes he could be spotted at Royal Farms getting his coffee and newspaper or riding the back roads early in the mornings looking at his fields and checking rain gauges. Donald was an active participant in Virginia Farm Bureau for many years. He had served as the Accomack County Farm Bureau president and was serving as an Accomack County Farm Bureau director. When not farming, he could be found in his recliner watching TV or doing sudoku puzzles with a cat asleep on his lap.

Donald is survived by his wife, Lou, of 56 years; his daughter, Kathryn and her husband, Travis Bundick, of Abingdon, Md., and his son, Matt, of Parksley; grandchildren, Brooke (Bundick) Sterner, Meghan Bundick, Caroline Bundick, Luke Young, and Violette Young; sisters, Ruby Young Swain and Barbara Young Middleton; and several nieces and nephews.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph F. Young (Rhoda); a nephew, Franklin Young (Lois Ann); a brother-in-law, Hughes Swain; an infant daughter, Tambra Young; a daughter, Beverly Young White; and a son-in-law, Richard White.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Jan. 28 at 2 p.m. at Zion Baptist Church in Parksley. Interment was private.
