On Sunday, Dec. 3, 2023, Mr. Wayne Burris Jester, 88, was reunited with the love of his life, Cynthia Kirk Jester, who impatiently awaited his arrival in heaven for nearly a decade. Born July 26, 1935, in Quinby, Wayne was the son of the late Delmas William Jester Sr. and Maude Miller Jester.

After graduating from high school, Wayne and Cynthia were married and began their 59-year adventure as husband and wife. Wayne worked as an insurance agent with Home Beneficial, now AIG, before and after two decades as the personnel director for Perdue Farms. He loved his Eastern Shore community and was passionate in his efforts to help those in need. For many years, Wayne was the “go to” guy for Carlisle and Tommy Williams at Williams Funeral Home, as he was always willing to assist, no matter the hour.

He was a longtime member of Melfa United Methodist Church and remained involved in many local civic organizations, all of which he served in various capacities. Wayne and Cynthia worked hard (and played hard) throughout their lives with the goal of retiring to enjoy time with family and traveling, and they did just that … almost to the penny!

In addition to his wife and parents, Wayne was predeceased by his brothers, Delmas W. Jester Jr. and his wife, Vanette, and Maurice Jester and his wife, Emily.

He is survived by his children, Wayne “Kirk” Jester, and his wife, Carol, of Virginia Beach, Deborah Anne “Debbie” Jester of Onancock, and Lisa “Michele” Stow, and her husband, Mark, of Clemmons, N.C.; grandchildren, Dustin Jester, Ashley Moore, Courtney Winstead, and Mallory Williams; great-grandchildren; Berkley Moore, Shelby Moore, Hunter Winstead, Caroline Winstead, Paige Winstead, and Cooper Williams; as well as several nieces, nephews, and their families.

Funeral services will be conducted from the chapel of the Williams-Onancock Funeral Home on Saturday, Dec. 16, 2023 at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Robert Fletcher officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairview Lawn Cemetery.

Contributions in Wayne’s memory may be made to Riverside Shore Cancer Center, P.O. Box 430, Onancock, VA 23417.
