Mr. Wade Hamilton Fitzgerald Sr., 96, husband of the late Martha Mister Fitzgerald and a resident of Cheriton, passed away Sunday, Nov. 5, 2023, at Shore Health and Rehabilitation in Parksley.
A native of Cheriton, he was the son of the late Wilbur F. Fitzgerald and the late Fannie Hamiliton Fitzgerald. He was a U.S. Army veteran, a retired farmer, was involved in many ventures including a gas station, F&R Hardware, F&R Trucking, and Tatum’s Grocery Store, was a past member of Northampton County Board of Supervisors, former Town of Cheriton Mayor, member of Capeville Masonic Lodge #107 AF & AM, member of Royal Arch Chapter #12, and charter member of Cheriton Fire Company.
He is survived by a son, Wade Hamiliton Fitzgerald (Gail), of Cheriton; a brother, Grayson Fitzgerald; two grandchildren, Lyle Hopkins (Ariel) of Chesterfield, Va., and Adrienne Hopkins (Adam) of Aurora, Colo.; and nine great-grandchildren, Jasper, Ender, Orion, Luna, Lilith Cindy, Howie, Zack, Douglas, and Vivienne.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Cindy K. Hopkins; a brother, Wilbur Fitzgerald Jr.; and a sister, Virginia Jones.
A graveside service with military honors will be conducted Saturday, Nov. 18, 2023, at 1 p.m. at Cape Charles Cemetery with the Rev. Randy Timmerman officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cheriton United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 297, Cheriton, VA 23316.
