Mr. Thomas Ernest Collins Jr., 85, beloved son of the late Thomas Ernest Collins Sr. and the late Marguerite Collins, was born on Sept. 27, 1937, in Stockton, Md. He transitioned from labor to reward on Sept. 3, 2023, at his residence.
Thomas, affectionately known as “Little Tom,” “Pop Tom,” “Dad,” “My Brother,” and “Uncle Tom,” was educated in the public schools of Accomack County. He worked for several companies, including P & L Poultry, Holly Farms, Golden Pride, and Judge Trucking. In later years, he established Collins Trucking with his son, Wayne, where he was the owner and operator until his retirement.
On Nov. 2, 1956, Thomas was united in holy wedlock to Gladys Katherine Trader. Their union was blessed with 66 years of marriage.
Thomas was a faithful member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Horntown.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2023, from Tabernacle Baptist Church, Horntown, with the Rev Dr. Lisa Johnson officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Thomas loved his family and left to cherish his precious memories are his loving wife, Gladys Collins; his children, Larry Darnell Collins, Thomas Collins III, Wayne Collins, Jacqueline Collins-Best, Timothy Johnson, and Corlis Thornton; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two great- great-grandchildren; three sisters whom he adored, Shirley Williams, Florence Collins, and Janice Purnell; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Arrangements were by the Cooper & Humbles Funeral Co., Accomac.
