Mrs. Alice Bailey, 94, was born to the late Eva Mae Oliver-Finney Church and the late Belford Francis Finney on Thursday, Oct. 4, 1928. Alice, known as “Queen of Melfa,” “Sis,” “Sis Girl,” and “Sister Alice,” was the lucky seventh child of eleven. On Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2023, at Shore Health and Rehabilitation in Parksley, God sent soaring angels to escort Alice to her final home.

At an early age, Alice accepted the saving grace of our Lord and Savior and was united with New Allen Memorial AME Church in Franktown. She later joined Gospel Temple Baptist Church in Keller.  She was a trusted and faithful member and held many positions. Alice was educated in the Northampton and Accomack County Public School systems, graduating from Mary N. Smith High School.

On June 21, 1951, she was united in marriage to Samuel Bailey Sr. They were married for 45 years until he transitioned from this earthly realm in April of 1997.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Aug. 19, 2023, from Bethel Baptist Church, Franktown, with the Rev. Percell Widgeon officiating. Interment was in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery, Eastville.

She leaves to cherish her memory three children, Sandra, Samuel, and Teresa; one son-in-law, Kenneth Ofosu; one sister, Joyce A. Finney; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; daughters-in-love, Mattie Snyder and Gloria D. Bailey; three very special cousins; four brothers-in-law, Robert Bailey, Earnest Bailey Jr., William Bailey, and Wilson Edward Bailey; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

Arrangements were by the Cooper & Humbles Funeral Co., Accomac.
