A bone that appears to be a human jaw bone with a tooth intact was found on Cape Charles public beach, the town’s police chief confirmed.

Police Chief Jim Pruitt said the bone has been taken to the Virginia Department of Forensic Science laboratory in Norfolk for identification.

“We found a bone and it’s at the lab,” Pruitt said. He declined to release further comment.

Cape Charles’ Chesapeake Bay beach is one of the town’s premier amenities, drawing large crowds of visitors each day.
