Mr. Michael L. Dunnagan, 73, formerly of Cape Charles, passed away peacefully at Baker Hospital in Naples, Fla., on Dec. 18, 2022. He was born in Dayton, Ohio on August 30, 1949, to Charles and Patricia Dunnagan. After high school he joined the United States Navy and served from 1967 to 1971.

Mike was married to the love of his life, Sharon Elizabeth Butler, on March 15, 1972. The couple raised their two daughters in Kettering, Ohio. In 1999 they moved to Cape Charles. After retirement in 2018, the couple spent three years traveling the country, visiting 21 states. They eventually settled in Bonita Springs, Fla.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by Sharon, his best friend and loving wife of 51 years.  Mike was a beloved son, husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his two daughters, Debbie (Dave) Leist and Susan Stubbs. Mike was blessed with three special grandchildren: Travis (Taylor) Tinker, Meghan (Jeremy) Richmond, and Brandon Stubbs. Michael will be greatly missed but forever in our hearts.

A memorial service will be held at the Cape Charles Baptist Church on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at 1 p.m.  This service will be combined with a service for Joyce Tilghman Butler, Michael’s mother-in-law, who passed away on April 14, 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic. There will be no graveside services.
