Mr. Robert Manning Burgess, 29, formerly of Capeville, passed away on May 24, 2023, in Salisbury, Md. Born on Dec. 24, 1993, in Norfolk, he was the son of Betty Burgess and his estranged father, Martin L. Burgess.
Robert received his education from Broadwater Academy in Exmore before continuing his studies at Virginia Wesleyan University in Virginia Beach. He attended Eastern Shore Community College in Melfa, where he further developed his passion for art. Robert’s love for art was evident in his drawings, which he often shared with his loved ones.
He was employed as a painter at Chesapeake Shipbuilding. Robert’s creativity extended beyond his work, as he also enjoyed designing tattoos for friends and family. His artistic abilities were admired by those who knew him, and his designs will be cherished by those who wear them. Robert’s loving spirit and creative talents will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
In addition to his parents, Robert is survived by his brother, Luther “Luke” T. Burgess; aunt, Ann H. Richardson; cousins, Kim Ruark Mihaly and Betsey Mihaly; and special friend, Lindsey Cutchin. His family and friends will remember him as a friendly, loving, and creative individual who brought joy to everyone he met.
Robert was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, G.L. “Hop” and Frances “Sassy” Hopkins; and paternal grandparents, Martin L. Sr. and Mary S. Burgess.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
