Mrs. Marie Josephine Wilpan passed away on her 89th birthday – Feb. 2, 2023. She was born in 1934 in the Bronx, N.Y., the sole child of the late Joseph Michael and Louise Marie (Greco) Malizia.
She graduated from Hunter College (N.Y.) in 1955 with a Bachelor of Elementary Education degree and married 2nd Lt. Harold Wilpan, USAF on June 26, 1955. They moved frequently to various military assignments in the U.S. and Spain. Marie was an elementary school teacher for 20 years then earned a Master of Education degree from Central State University (Okla.) in 1978 and was a school counselor for the remainder of her career. Marie and Harold retired to Chincoteague in 2007.
She was predeceased by her parents, husband, and a grandchild (Stevie-Jo Knapick). She is survived by her three daughters, Rachelle (David) Boslego, Louise (Michael) Wells, and Mary-Jo (late Joseph) Ecklund; five grandchildren, Vincent, Joseph, and Paul Boslego, Lauren and Carson Wells; and three great-grandchildren.
Swimming, playing games, and caring for her pet dogs were some of her favorite activities. She was beloved. Entombment will be at Saint Andrew the Apostle Columbarium, Chincoteague, VA on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at 11 a.m.
