Mrs. Ute Roswitha Dobbs, 80, wife of Robert “Bob” Dobbs and a resident of Onancock, passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at Shore Health and Rehabilitation Center in Parksley. Born August 26, 1942, in Darmstadt, Germany and raised in northern Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Wilhelm Hofferberth and Hedwig Marie and Zackary Ruiz.

Ute lived and worked in northern Virginia until 1992 when she and Bob moved to Virginia’s Eastern Shore, where they made a beautiful home in the quiet suburb of Mount Prospect. More often than not, Ute was outside tending to her yard and gardens, always with a sweet smile and a wave to passersby. In the late afternoons, she and Bob were usually sitting on the front porch enjoying the fruits of her labor and chatting with friends and neighbors.

Over the years Ute and Bob spent a lot of time traveling, whether it was just a short RV camping adventure or trips to Germany to visit her family. Ute loved animals and was especially fond of cats. She was the kindest and gentlest of souls and will be greatly missed by those near and dear to her heart.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Joseph Oddo and his wife, Melissa; stepdaughters, Elizabeth Jorsey and her husband, Allen, and Deborah Richards and her husband, Coy; brother, Karl Ruiz; and grandsons, Zackary, William, and Spencer Oddo. Other than her parents and stepfather, she was predeceased by her grandson, AJ Jorsey.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Contributions in Ute’s memory may be made to the Eastern Shore SPCA, P.O. Box 164, Onley, VA 23418 (www.shorespca.com).
