Mrs. Frances Knight “Fran” Gillespie, 77, of Chincoteague Island passed away on March 8, 2023, at her residence.
She was born in Norfolk on Feb. 26, 1946, to the late Richard Knight and Marie (Lee) Taylor.
She was a member of Union Baptist Church. Fran worked as a dental assistant at Island Dental on Chincoteague.
She was a loving wife, mom, and granny.
Fran is survived by her loving spouse, William T. Gillespie of Chincoteague; three children, Denise Hopkins, spouse Sherrill Hopkins of Pocomoke City, Md., Cheryl Chesser of Salisbury, Md., and Chad Chesser and his wife Louise of Chincoteague, seven grandchildren; Nicholas Hopkins of Ocean City, Md., Andrew Hopkins of Fruitland, Laura Hopkins of Pocomoke City, Kristin and Kelsey Chesser of Salisbury, Cole Chesser of Atlantic, and Nina Butler of Jacksonville; great-grandson, Kamarie Butler, and two sisters, Kathryn Knight Taylor of Bloxom and Carolyn Knight Smith of Jacksonville; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Knight, and her mother, Marie Lee Taylor.
Funeral services were held on Monday, March 13, 2023, at 2 p.m. at the Union Baptist Church on Chincoteague with the Rev. Kevin Eley officiating.
Burial took place in the Parksley Cemetery.
