Mr. Roger Ernest Beasley, 90, passed away peacefully at his home in Greenbush on Monday, March 6, 2023. A native of Texaco Town, just outside of Onley, he was the eldest child, and only son, born January 16, 1933, to the late Ernest Beasley and Gertie Allen Beasley.

Roger graduated from Onancock High School, class of 1953. Soon after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army, proudly serving his country for two years. Following honorable discharge, Roger returned home and began working as a delivery driver for Kellam Distributing Company, which later became Bagwell Oil Company, where he retired as a dispatcher after several decades in the petroleum industry. Over the years, he enjoyed bird hunting, playing softball, and especially looked forward to days spent on the golf course. Roger adored his family, spoiled his grandchildren, and always had room for just one more cat.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Gravenor Beasley; sons, Mark Freeman Beasley and his wife, Debbie, and Rodney Ernest Beasley and his wife, Lucina, all of Onley; stepchildren, Paul Gray (Debbie), Carl Gray (Debbie), and Vicky Fussell (Daryn); grandchildren, Dylan Beasley, Daniel Beasley, Lindsey Fussell, Paul Gray Jr., Carl Lee Gray III, Walter Gray, and Daniel Gray; sister, Frances Courtney and her husband, Barry, of Schooner Bay, Va.; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife and the mother of his children, Yvonne Mears Beasley and his sister, Mary Beasley.

Funeral services were conducted from the graveside at the Fairview Lawn Cemetery on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Robert Fletcher officiating.
