Our beloved, Mrs. Levolia Savage Fletcher, entered eternal rest peacefully at her home in Chesapeake on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2023. She was born in Modest Town on Nov. 19, 1933, a daughter of the late Herbert and Sallie Savage. She was married to the late Hessie Fletcher Jr.
Levolia graduated from Mary N. Smith High School in Accomac. She attended Norfolk State University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. She worked as a teacher for the Accomack County school system for many years and retired as a migrant education coordinator for the state of Virginia after 30 years.
Levolia accepted Christ at an early age at Macedonia Baptist Church in Bloxom, where she was a lifelong member and faithful servant of the Lord. She served as the church clerk and was a member of the senior choir and Voice of Praise. She was also a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2023, at Macedonia Baptist Church, Bloxom, with the Rev. Tamela P. Wise officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Levolia’s love and memories will linger in the hearts of her family forever. She is survived by her son, Maurice A. Fletcher Sr. (Sandra); five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her loving sister, Ilease Stokes; devoted cousin, Deloise Hargis; special nieces, Leslie Handy and Lisa Williams; brother-in-law, Milton Fletcher; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Arrangements were by the Cooper & Humbles Funeral Co., Accomac.
