Mr. George D. Mizzelle, 78, of Parksley, fell asleep in death on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2023, at Riverside Rehabilitation Center in Newport News.

Born in Columbia, N.C., George was the beloved son of the late Percy and Emma Mizzelle. He was lovingly known as “Big Mi” by his family and friends.

George was a member of the class of 1963 of Walker High School in Edenton, N.C. In the same year of graduation, he entered Elizabeth City State University and became a member of the “Mighty Vikings” football team. In Mr. Mizzelle 1968, he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in industrial arts education.

After graduation, George married his college sweetheart, Eula W. Mizzelle. He relocated to Accomack County and began his career in education, and taught at several schools. He mentored and coached many school and community youth.

George retired after teaching for 30 years and driving the school bus for over 20 years.

He also worked part time for Accomack County Parks and Recreation for over 20 years. Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 14, 2023, from Nandua High School, Onley, with Pastor Carroll Mills officiating. Interment was in the Fairview Lawn Cemetery, Onancock.

Loved ones remaining to cherish his memory are his wife, Eula W. Mizzelle; son, Gregory D. Mizzelle, daughter-inlaw, Tyronda P. Mizzelle; one brother, John Mizzelle; two sisters, Angelico Powell and Martha Price; three grandsons; three granddaughters; three great-grandchildren; one great-great, grandchild; three brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Arrangements were by the Cooper & Humbles Funeral Co., Accomac.
