Staff Report

One woman was arrested and another was taken to a Norfolk hospital after an incident Saturday afternoon in Melfa.

Yvrose Compere, 36, of Melfa, was arrested and charged with aggravated malicious wounding after the Accomack County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a disturbance in the 19000 block of Main Street, in Melfa, Dec. 17 at around 3:24 p.m., according to Sheriff Todd Wessells.

Shortly after the sheriff’s office received the report, Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital advised they had received a female walk-in patient of Haitian descent with multiple lacerations and burns.

A deputy responded to the hospital and spoke with the victim through a translator, who was able to provide a synopsis of the events that led to the woman’s injuries.

The woman afterwards was flown to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital where she is listed in stable condition.

Investigation into the incident led to Compere’s arrest. She is incarcerated at the Accomack County Jail with bail denied.

No other suspects are being sought.

The Accomack County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Virginia State Police.
