Chincoteague boys pick up first basketball wins of season

The Chincoteague Ponies boys varsity basketball team picked up its first win of the season Friday, Dec. 9, on the Ponies’ home court by defeating the Broadwater Vikings, 63-32. 

The Ponies built a 28-17 lead in the first half. In the third quarter, the Ponies’ offense kicked it into high gear, scoring 35 points. The third quarter run was the factor that determined the outcome of the game. Both the Vikings and Ponies were scoreless in the fourth quarter.

Jake Harper led the Ponies’ offense with 20 points, four rebounds, and three assists. Jordan Harper had 17 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists. Marcello Rosanova earned 13 points, six rebounds, and two assists. 

Austin Adams had 12 points and 14 rebounds. Johnathan Holloway had one point, one rebound, and one assist. Brian Sterling earned four rebounds. Jake Sneeringer had two rebounds. Samuel Pomerleau earned one rebound.

Malik Battle led the Vikings’ offense with 10 points, three rebounds, and one assist. Alex Mendrinos had five points. Colvin Willis earned four points and four rebounds. Kolby Evans had four points and three rebounds. Rufus Abbott earned three points, three rebounds, and one assist. 

Carson Savage had three points and one rebound. Kai Watkins earned two points and one rebound. Quinn Ames had one point, nine rebounds, and one assist. Luke Duer earned one rebound.

The Ponies won their second game of the season this past Tuesday, defeating Salisbury Christian School, 55-45. 

The Vikings next game is Tuesday, Jan. 3. They will host Atlantic Shores Christian School in Exmore.
