Body Found on Assateague Identified as Missing Chincoteague Man

The body of a deceased man found on Assateague beach on Thanksgiving Day has been identified as Dewey Elmer Hall Sr., of Chincoteague, according to the Chincoteague Police Department.

Hall had been reported missing Nov. 7 and was last seen around 1:30 a.m. Nov. 4.

His body was found in the water on the southern end of Assateague Island near the old Coast Guard Station.

The Chincoteague Police Department dispatched a Federal Wildlife Officer to the area, as well as a Chincoteague police officer to assist.

An investigator with the Accomack County Sheriff’s Office was requested to assist in recovering the body.

The remains were transported to the medical examiner’s office in Norfolk and were positively identified as Hall.

Anyone with information as to Hall’s whereabouts during the time he was missing is asked to contact Investigator Barnes or Corporal Gladding at the Chincoteague Police Department at 757-336-3155.

The Chincoteague Police Department is being assisted by the Accomack County Sheriff’s Office and United States Fish and Wildlife Service officers.
