By Stefanie JacksonThe new Northampton County Public Schools superintendent, Jaime Cole, has resigned after a little more than 150 days in the position.

The Northampton school board held a special closed session this morning to discuss the matter, followed by a brief open session in which all members were present and voted unanimously to accept the resignation, effective immediately.

Cole had replaced the previous superintendent, Eddie Lawrence, who retired after eight years in the position.

Last school year, Cole served as the Northampton school division’s associate superintendent.

She previously spent more than 20 years in Arizona, where she gained all of her prior educational experience.

Before Cole was recruited to work for Northampton County Public Schools, she was a teacher, special education teacher, assistant principal, principal, instructional coach, and superintendent, a position she held for five years.
