Elder Charles D. Strand, 74, of Accomac, was called from labor to reward on Oct. 25, 2022, at Sentara Heart Hospital in Norfolk.
Born in Accomac, Charles was the beloved son of the late Preston Strand Sr. and Rosa M. Strand.
Charles received his education in the public schools of Accomack County and was a graduate of Mary N. Smith High School.
At an early age, Charles accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at Macedonia AME Church in Accomac. He along with his family were instrumental in the music ministry at Macedonia. In later years, he joined the congregation at Miracle Temple of Faith Church in Mappsville. There he continued to serve in the music ministry as the assistant minister of music and Sunday school teacher. He was also an ordained elder.
On Aug. 27, 1977, Charles married the love of his life, Bertie Wharton. Their union was blessed with 45 years of love and two children.
He leaves to cherish his fond memories his loving wife, Bertie Strand; four sons, Douglas Strand, Sean Wharton, Theutis Wharton, and Marcus Baines; one daughter, Zwanda West; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; six brothers, Herbert Strand, Carey Strand, David Strand, Lawrence Strand, Tyrone Strand, and Derwin Strand; one sister, Barbara Hoy; three sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Arrangements were by the Cooper & Humbles Funeral Co., Accomac.
