By Stefanie Jackson – Democratic Congresswoman Elaine Luria has conceded to Republican opponent Jen Kiggans in the race for Virginia’s second district in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Luria was seeking a third two-year term; she was first elected in 2018 when she defeated Republican incumbent Scott Taylor.

Now Luria finds herself the defeated incumbent. As of 11 p.m. Tuesday, Kiggans had nearly 52% of the vote compared to almost 48% for Luria, with 236 of 247 precincts reporting.

Northampton favored Luria, who had received more than 52% of the county’s vote, and the more populous Accomack favored Kiggans, who received more than 58% of the votes in that county.
