Mr. Ernest James “Junnie” Powell Sr. passed away Sept. 20, 2022. He was born in Capeville on Jan. 28,1942, a son to the late Bennie Powell and the late Evelyn Naomi White Powell.
Ernest was preceded in death by two brothers, Joshua White and Daniel Powell.
Ernest attended elementary and high school in Northampton County. He joined the U.S. Army in the late ’60s, and did a tour in Vietnam. His last assignment was in Fort Benning, Ga., where after being “all he could be,” he medically retired.
Ernest is survived by his beloved wife, Betty; one son, Ernest James Jr.; and three grandchildren, Ora Allure, Roman Ambrose, and Sage Ruth. He is also survived by eight siblings: Mary “Babysis,” Luray “Regina,” Rita (Robert), Jerome “Skipper” (Dee), Cathy (Anthony), Dimples “Ethel” (Walter), Debbie, and Kevin. He leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
