Accomack officials voted to repurpose $250,000 the county had set aside as a match for a federal study of Chincoteague Inlet, after the General Assembly this year approved state funding for the match.
The Accomack Board of Supervisors voted to use the money to pay for third-party assistance to prepare federal grant applications for a project to move beach parking on Assateague Island National Seashore to a more stable area.
“We’re talking about a $40 million parking lot now,” said Chairman Billy Joe Tarr, who made the motion to repurpose the $250,000.
