Mrs. Patricia Elaine “Pat” Doughty, wife of Robert F. “Bob” Doughty and a resident of Southside Chesconessex, Onancock, formerly of Virginia Beach, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2022, at the age of 71. Born May 7, 1951, in Wilmington, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Homer Garfield Phelps and the late Vivian Vestha Phelps.

Pat worked as a loan processor for Bank of America in Virginia Beach for 23 years, and in 1994, accepted a position as a finance specialist with the Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority (NRHA), where she remained until her retirement in May of 2006. Soon after retiring, Pat and Bob relocated to Southside Chesconessex, instantly adapting to the serenity and embracing the beauty and history of the Eastern Shore. Over the last decade, Pat was the docent manager for the Eastern Shore of Virginia Historical Society’s Ker Place Historic House Museum. She was passionate about the Shore’s history and enjoyed sharing her time and knowledge with all who visited.

In addition to her husband of 52 years, she is survived by her brother, Wayne Phelps, as well as several nieces and nephews and their families. Other than her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Robert Phelps.

To honor Pat’s wishes, no public service will be held. Should friends desire, contributions in her memory may be made to the Eastern Shore of Virginia Historical Society, payable to Shore History, P.O. Box 179, Onancock, VA 23417 (www.shorehistory.org/donate-1), or as Pat would say, “Donate your most valuable possession: your time,” as a volunteer for ESVHS.

Memory tributes may be shared with the family at www.williamsfuneralhomes.com

Arrangements are by the Williams-Onancock Funeral Home.
