Mr. James Edward Dickerson Sr., 76, began his earthly journey on Aug. 6, 1945. On July 11, 2022, he turned his focus and face toward glory and peacefully transitioned to his eternal home.

James, known as “Pipeman,” “Drakster,” or “Pickel,” was the fourth child born to Gardner Dickerson Sr. and Lillian Dickerson, of Atlantic. He received his primary education in the Accomack County Public Schools and attended Norfolk State University. James also served as an active member of the U.S. Army as a communication specialist (SGT/E-5).

James was employed by Campbell Soup and Perdue Poultry Plant while acquiring accreditation as a master electrician, in which he served the community for over 50 years. He loved electrical work and literally worked up until a month before he transitioned. Harbor Freight and Lowe’s knew him by name.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 16, 2022, at the chapel of Cooper & Humbles Funeral Co., Accomac, with the Rev. Michelle Townsend officiating. Interment was in the First Baptist Church Cemetery.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory, four wonderful children that he loved unconditionally, John Dickerson, James Dickerson Jr., Michelle Townsend, and Jeffrey Dickerson; brother, Gardner Dickerson Jr.; eight grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Valestine White, Yvonne Norville, and Essie Mae Dickerson; two brothers-in-law, Steve Byrd and Edward White; two devoted nephews, Arthur “Bunk” Dickerson and Jerry Dickerson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Arrangements were by the Cooper & Humbles Funeral Co., Accomac.
