Mr. Richard Benjamin Mapp III, better known as Buddy, 78, and a resident of Quinby, passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at his residence. A native of Birdsnest, he was the son of the late Richard Benjamin Mapp Jr. and the late Alice Hopkins Mapp. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served as a sergeant in Vietnam, retired truck driver for Moore Trucking, member and past commander of the V.F.W. Exmore Post, and member of Painter Volunteer Fire Company for 20 years.

He is survived by his loving companion of 21 years, Jo Ann Jones, of Quinby; son, William C. “Chris” Mapp, and his wife, Chelsie, of Broadwater; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters, Audrey Belote, Maude Parker, and Libby Tarr.
A Celebration of Life service will be conducted Saturday, May 21, 2022, at 1 p.m., at Doughty Funeral Home, with the Rev. Carrie Talbott officiating. Family will join friends at the funeral home Saturday from 12:30 to 1 p.m. Memorials may be made to Painter Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 275, Painter, VA 23420.
