Nandua graduate Kimberly Wert adds an All-SEC First Team honor to her impressive career. Wert recently took over the all-time home run record for the University of Missouri after hitting 55 homers since the 2019 season. She leads the Tigers with 17 home runs and 52 RBIs on the year. In 2022, Wert earned the SEC Player of the Week award twice due to her outstanding performance.
Wert started her softball career at Hofstra University, appearing in 32 games, typically as a pinch hitter. After the season, the head coach was offered a position at Missouri and asked Wert to join her in the journey. Wert transferred to Missouri as a sophomore and immediately became an impact player for the squad. She started in all 60 games in 2019 at third base and was dominate at the plate. Wert hit a total of 19 home runs in her first season at Mizzou and led the team in RBIs with 48 on the year.
Wert continued to show outstanding play in 2020, but after just 26 games the season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She returned in 2021, starting again in all 57 games as a third baseman or designated player. During that year, Wert tied for third in Missouri history for single season home runs with 17. Wert also earned SEC spring academic honor roll in 2020 and 2021, showing her ability to be a true collegiate student-athlete.
