After a big win at home against Nandua on Tuesday, May 10, the Chincoteague Ponies varsity softball team clinched its first Eastern Shore District Title in 35 years.

The rough weather conditions did not set the teams up for an easy game, but the Lady Ponies showed heart and determination from start to finish. Alex McComb earned the 14-4 win in the circle for Chincoteague, pitching a compete five-inning game. McComb allowed only four runs on four hits, striking out five.

Offensively, Emma Jackson had a great day at the plate going 2-for-3 with five RBIs from a double in the first inning and a home run in the third. McComb, Lillie Matthews, and Allie Bell each recorded multiple hits for the Ponies.

Nandua’s Kylie Killmon led the Warriors at the plate going 2-for-3. Reghan Hintz took the loss allowing six hits and eight runs, while striking out four in one and one-third innings pitched. Haylie Justice entered in relief, throwing two and two-thirds, recording three strikeouts.

The Ponies now hold a 12-0 season record and sought to continue its undefeated season Thursday, May 12, hosting the Northampton Yellow Jackets.
