Mr. Gerald Henri “Gerry” Gavard, 82, passed peacefully into eternal life Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at his home in Melfa, with his beloved Bonnie Davis; stepdaughter, Tania Gariepy; and step-granddaughter, Valery, by his side. On his 11th hour, Pastor Paul Nolz prayed upon Gerry. He was born Nov. 26, 1939, in a small quaint town, Hull, Quebec, Canada. Gerry’s younger years were spent deer hunting, ice fishing, and snowmobiling. He cherished his four-legged babies, Kido, Gi Gi, Jo-Jo, Blackie, and Snowflake: “the cats.” His favorite sayings were “That’s chicken sh*ts” and “Don’t start something that you can’t finish.”

He worked 40 years of service for Canadair Aircraft as a flight engineer in Quebec City, Canada, before his retirement to The Eastern Shore of Virginia. For over 30 plus years Gerry was a class a contractor, for which he was well known under his business name of Gavard Construction. For 25 years he was the caretaker of Dr. Mark Kerner’s home on the Eastern Shore. Every working moment Gerry was dedicated to make sure all was taken care of at Dr. Kerner’s home, including the numerous interactions with the Kerner family.

To honor his wishes, a private family service will be conducted. Should friends desire, memorial donations to help the family with funeral expenses may be sent c/o Bonnie Davis, P.O. Box 92, Exmore, VA 23350.

The family sends thanks to the hospice team for all of their care, love, and empathy to his family throughout Gerry’s journey and also to the Riverside Shore Memorial ER Team, Riverside Medical group, Dr. Joyner, and a gracious thank you to Dr. Kerner and family for helping Gerry over the many years.
