Mrs. Irene Annis Timmons, of Chincoteague Island, passed away suddenly on April 26, 2022, at her residence.

Born April 17, 1937, a daughter to the late Herman and Della (Young) Annis, Irene had just celebrated a milestone birthday turning 85 years old, spending it with the people she loved the most, her family.

She was a member of Union Baptist Church, Daughters of Ruth Sunday School Class, and Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #62. Irene started her career as a secretary for Chincoteague Elementary School and later owned and operated Regina’s Dress Shop on Main Street, and then finished up her career as a successful realtor with Eastern Shore Properties – making people’s dreams come true for over 34 years.

She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt. Two things that brought her great joy was her family and shopping, and she took both very seriously!
Irene is survived by her two sons, Jimmy Hickman and his wife, Lori, of Carrollton, Va., and Brent Hickman and his wife, DeAnna, of Atlantic; four grandsons, Michael Hickman and his wife, Nina, of Savannah, Ga., William Hickman and his girlfriend, Cana Lankford, of North Ridge, Ohio, Trevor Hickman and his wife, Leighann, of Yorktown, Va., and Will Hickman, of Atlantic; one granddaughter, Cassie Rivera, and her husband, Alex, of Richland, N.C.; plus, four great-grandchildren. Irene is also survived by her brother, Kenny Annis, and his wife, Carolyn, of Parksley, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Jimmy Hickman, and her second husband, Bill Timmons, as well as three siblings, Roy Annis, JoAnn McComb, and Faye Lewis.

Graveside services were held Sunday, May 1, 2022, at 2 p.m., in the Redmen Cemetery, Taylor Street, Chincoteague Island, with the Rev. Kevin Eley officiating.
