Arcadia Firebirds Baseball Team Defeats Holly Grove

Arcadia competed against Holly Grove Christian school on Tuesday, April 19, at home. The Firebirds stole the lead late to take the victory over the Eagles with a final score of 8-6. 

Arcadia was first to put runs on the board but Holly Grove quickly responded, bringing the score to 3-3 going into the third inning. Holly Grove added additional runs in the fourth and fifth while holding Arcadia to only one run in three innings of play. 

The Firebird’s offense became hot in the bottom of the sixth when Zach Giddens hit a clutch double on a 0-2 count, scoring two runs. Arcadia added two more runs during the bottom of the sixth, bringing the score to 8-6. The Firebirds shut down Holly Groves’ offense in the bottom of the seventh and clinched a hard fought win. 

Nathan Barnes got the win for the Firebirds, allowing zero hits and zero runs over three innings of work. Barnes recorded four strikeouts with one walk. Landon Fuller started on the mound grinding out three and a third with nine strikeouts. Tyler Padgett assisted, coming in for relief to add another strikeout for the Firebirds in two-thirds of an inning.

Giddens led the offense for Arcadia going 3-for-4 with three doubles and four RBIs. Nathan Barnes also recorded a double in the victory with one RBI. Carson Lucy scored three runs, while Fuller and Roy Reid each crossed the plate once. Padgett had one hit in the game and scored two runs. Arcadia played again on April 21 in a district matchup against Nandua High School.
