Mrs. Dorothy Yeaman “Dottie” Mears, loving wife, mother, sister, and friend, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2022, at the age of 59. Born June 27, 1962, in South Boston, Va., she was the daughter of the late Harry Leon Yeaman and his wife, Barbara, and the late Betty Lou Allen Yeaman.
Dottie graduated from Onancock High School, class of 1979, and then completed the LPN program at the Eastern Shore Community College. In 1981, she married her best friend and soulmate, Robert D. “Bobby” Mears, with whom she built a beautiful life defined by their infinite love and mutual respect and adoration for one another. Following the birth of their son, Dottie began working in the accounting office at Perdue Farms. After 16 years with Perdue, she accepted a position as the office administrator at Commonwealth Chesapeake Power Station in New Church, where she recently retired after 22 years. Dottie loved Christian music and spent her daily commute to and from work tuned in to her favorite station, 887 The Bridge. The purest of hearts, Dottie’s gentle and compassionate spirit was instantly evident to those she met. Anyone who visited the Mears home in Melfa would agree there was never a more perfectly kept house and yard, which she and Bobby lovingly shared with all who stopped by. For many years, the Mears residence became a home away from home for their son’s friends, most of whom thought of Dottie as a second mom. Throughout her life, Dottie was limitless in her devotion to loved ones and stopped at nothing to ensure those most important to her knew it.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Bobby, of 41 years; their son, Robert D. “Robbie” Mears II, of Onley; brother, Harry L. Yeaman Jr., and his wife, Karen, of Hampton; half-sister, Anita Reagan, of Delaware; half-brother, Merritt Reagan, and his wife, Diane, of Rustburg, Va.; aunt, Cathy Allen; brother-in-law, Harry P. Mears, and his wife, Tina; sisters-in-law, Becky Mears (Rick Chase) and Cindy Mears; and nieces and nephews, Harry L. Yeaman III (Adetoun), Clinton Thomas Yeaman (Allison), Stewart Fulcher, Tara, Troy, and Keith Burgess, Billy Mears, Holly and Heather Matthews, and Amanda and Jake Nelson (Megan), and their children.
In addition to her parents, Dottie was predeceased by her sister, Leslie Yeaman Fulcher; parents-in-law, William D. “Cigar” Mears and Jean Smith Mears; brother-in-law, William D. “Buddy” Mears II; and nephew, Taylor Joseph Mears.
Funeral services will be conducted from the graveside at the Fairview Lawn Cemetery Friday, March 18, 2022, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. James D. Canody officiating.
