Police Investigating Fatal Shooting Sunday in Daugherty

Police are investigating the fatal shooting of an Onancock man Sunday, March 6, in Daugherty.

According to Sheriff W. Todd Wessells, the Accomack County Sheriff’s Office received a report from the Eastern Shore Emergency Operations Center around 8:05 a.m. Sunday of an unresponsive person at a residence in the 26000 block of Drummondtown Road.

When deputies arrived, they discovered an unresponsive man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

The man, identified as Jamar Antwyn Smith, 41, of Onancock, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The remains have been taken to the Norfolk Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause of death.

The Accomack County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Virginia State Police, Onancock Volunteer Fire Department, and the Accomack County Department of Public Safety.
