Ms. Mary Ida Rosse Pride, 84, of Accomac, passed away Friday, Feb. 25, 2022, at her granddaughter’s home in Schooner Bay, Onancock. Born Aug. 7, 1937, in Locustville, she was the daughter of the late John Thomas Rosse and the late Mary Elizabeth East Rosse.

Having been raised in a large family with six brothers and sisters, Mary’s genuine care and compassion for others began at a young age. As a mother of five, she was always there for her children, and later, for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As the kids grew older, Mary continued to fulfill her calling to help others through her work as a home health aide. She loved being surrounded by her family, often preparing Thanksgiving-style meals with her newest recipe, and if in season, a side of turnip greens. Mary enjoyed crafts and was an exceptionally talented seamstress, never passed up the opportunity to go thrift store shopping, and loved all animals, especially cats.

In addition to her parents, Mary was predeceased by her infant son, Richard Wayne Belote, and her siblings, Alice Barnett, Hazel Crockett, Ann Allen, Robert “Bob” Ross, Ivan Ross, and Morris Ross.

She is survived by her children, Tammy Chorman (Nelson), of Laurel, Del., Richard Ames (Clare Belote), of Milton, Del., William Scott (Melissa Belote), of Lewes, Del., and Charles “Eddie” Belote, of Hampton; grandchildren, Mary Matthews, Stephani Snead, Jennifer Stanhope, Dana Boyer, Leanna Elvenia, Amy Belote Vest, and Heidi, Richard, and Edward Belote; great-grandchildren, Alexander “AJ” and Caleb Chrisman, who she raised as her own, Savannah, Aria, and Liam Matthews, Lily, Iris, and Willow Snead, Kylie and Carson Stanhope, Elizabeth and Lucas Fuller, Ava Boyer, Kai Bailey, Shiloh Frey, Layla Brisco, Eva Trimiew, and Samantha and Jeremy Vest; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted from the chapel of the Williams-Onancock Funeral Home Monday, March 7, 2022, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Robert Fletcher officiating. Interment was in the Edgehill Cemetery.
