Mr. Michael James Horner, 53, of Lenoir, N.C., and originally from Hallwood, passed away Friday, Feb. 25, 2022, at Caldwell UNC Health Care. He was born July 23, 1968, in Anne Arundel County, Md., a son to the late Raymond K. Horner Sr. and Nancy Olivia Pruitt Horner. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one brother, Raymond K. Horner Jr.

As a youth, Michael enjoyed fishing with his father, with whom he had an extremely close bond. He was an accomplished bowler, taking after his mother, who lovingly encouraged him as he won many awards including a perfect game. Michael’s storybook life begins to fall apart when his dear father died, which spiraled him into depression that contributed to substance abuse, job loss, and marital destruction. But thanks be to God, Michael’s life had a happy ending! This began when he came to Bethel Colony of Mercy N.C., where he came to a saving knowledge of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and from that day forward Michael’s life was completely transformed. He didn’t come back home to live in Virginia but stayed at Bethel and became part of a team that has helped the Lord snatch many out of Hell’s fire!

Those left to cherish his memory include two loving brothers; Keith Horner and wife, Donna, and Stephen Horner and wife, Victoria, all of Virginia; a dear aunt, who was like a second mother to him, Wanda Kubitz, and husband, Ray; beloved cousins, whom he considered brothers and sisters, the Rev. Paul Pruitt and wife, Stacy, Brenda Maas and husband, Bryan, Karl Kubitz and wife, Nancy, all from North Carolina; plus, numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and extended family.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Michael will be held Sunday, March 13, 2022, at 2 p.m., at First Baptist Church, 5912 Taylor Landing Road, Girdletree, Md., conducted by the Rev. Keith Horner.
