Mr. Donald Ralph “Don” Bilgeshouse, 75, of Parksley, formerly of New Milford, N.J., passed away Monday, Feb. 21, 2022. Born in Jersey City, N.J., and raised in Bergenfield, N.J., he was the son of the late Ralph Bilgeshouse and the late Dorothy Roberts.

Following high school, Don enlisted in the U.S. Army, beginning his lifelong career in service to his country. For a total of 56 years, Don was a volunteer and paid firefighter, serving 28 years with the Teaneck Fire Department, where he retired as lieutenant. Since childhood, Don was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Bergenfield. After Don’s retirement from the fire department, he relocated to the Eastern Shore of Virginia in 2003.

Don is survived by his wife of 47 years, Peggy Bilgeshouse; brother, Ralph D. Bilgeshouse, and his wife, Maryann; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Linda Bilgeshouse, and sister-in-law, Bonnie Bilgeshouse.

A service to celebrate Don’s life will be held in New Jersey at a later date.

In honor of Don’s many years of dedicated service as a first responder, contributions in his memory may be made to the Bloxom Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 132, Bloxom, VA 23308.
