Mrs. Virginia W. Strand, 90, of Parksley, was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, Feb. 3, 2022, at Shore Health & Rehab Center in Parksley.

Born in Accomac, Virginia was the beloved daughter of the late Levi Jr. and Eva S. Northam. She was affectionately known as “Jean” by her family and friends. After graduating from Mary N. Smith High School, she attended a beautician’s class taught at the church. Following her training, she would often be found on some weekends “doing hair in her kitchen” for a few select clients. She was retired from Tyson Foods, formerly Holly Farms, in Temperanceville.

She married the love of her life, the late James A. Strand, on July 11, 1954. She was a member of Gaskins A.M.E. Church in Savageville and served in many capacities of the church.

Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 11, 2022, at the chapel of Cooper & Humbles Funeral Co., Accomac, with the Rev. Oretha P. Cross officiating. Interment was in the Gaskins Chapel AME Church Cemetery, Savageville.

Left to cherish fond memories are: her daughter, Yvonne Pennell; grandsons, Ronnie Northam Jr. and Marcus Northam; granddaughters, Kristal Davis, Melanie Stith, Marlow Walker, and Leola Smith; 13 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; brother, Clifton Northam Sr.; nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of dear friends.

Arrangements are by the Cooper & Humbles Funeral Co., Accomac.
