Mrs. Ann Yvonne Lewis, 85, of Chincoteague Island, passed away Sunday, Feb. 6, 2022, at Shore Health and Rehabilitation Center in Parksley.
Yvonne was born on the island on Jan. 8, 1937, a daughter to the late John and Mary Lewis.
She began her working career as an Avon sales representative, but when Bill Salyer told her of a new doctor coming to town that needed an office manager, Yvonne applied, was hired and ran the day-to-day operations for 48 years. That doctor was Donald J. Amrien. She never called him anything but “the doctor” and you didn’t see the doctor until you went through Yvonne.
In her spare time, Yvonne taught Weight Watchers and maintained her membership at Union Baptist Church.
Yvonne is survived by her loving and dedicated daughter, Vicky R. Tull, of Chincoteague Island; stepson, Martin Lewis Jr., and his wife, Corrina, of Ohio; one stepgrandson of Ohio; and cousins, Bobby Umphlett and his wife, Nancy, Audrey Justice, and Joyce Reed, all of Chincoteague Island.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Martin Lewis Sr.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2022, at 2 p.m., at Union Baptist Church on Chincoteague Island, with the Rev. Kevin Eley officiating.
Interment took place at the John W. Taylor Memorial Cemetery in Temperanceville.
Donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
Services were entrusted to Salyer Funeral Home Inc., on Chincoteague Island.
